05/18/2014 Driving is a pleasure that comes with a significant responsibility. It is important to drive safely not only to safeguard yourself, but also all others on the road. A good and safe driver must know certain rules and driving procedures and obey them. However, to be able to drive on the roads in the United States, you must obtain the driving license from the department of public safety of your respective state.
Although, driving licensing requirements can differ from state to state in US, but most of them are similar. Here are some tips that can be useful for those aspiring to pass driving test here:
Written test
First of all, you need to face a written test. But, you can expect some tricky questions in the test which require some preparation in advance. Every state in US has a devoted website with its Drivers Manual. You must ensure that you go through this at least once. It is important to remember the meanings of signs and rules on the road, speed limits of different roads. It might not be difficult to learn, but it is important that you remember them.
You can even try to take one practice test before attempting the actual test. This will help you prepare for the final test and give you an idea about the different questions that you are likely to get in the test. For example, in Indiana, you get a list of 50 multiple choice questions and have good amount of time to answer them.
Driving test
After you have passed the written test, you are required to undergo a driving skills test. If you have practiced well and have a good control on your vehicle, you might find it comparatively easy to come through nearly all parts of the driving skills test. But that’s not enough. You must be aware of various other things in addition to being an expert driver.
Here are few things you should keep in mind when appearing for a driving test:

Your vehicle must be in good condition so check its signal lights, break lights, head lights, wipers and so on.

It is certainly a great idea to ask someone, who has already taken the test at your BMV branch about the testing route. How about riding on the same route before appearing for the test? While doing so, you must notice the speed limits on different segments of the route.

Listen attentively to your examiner. Do as he instructs you. Never do anything illegal to achieve your goal such as beating the red light.
Always maintain a speed limit of +5/-5 on the road. Avoid driving too fast or too slow.
Pay attention to all signs and signals on the road such as school zones or “No turn on Red” signs.
