About Swedelson & Gottlieb
Established January 1987
SwedelsonGottlieb, a leading California law firm that limits it's
practice exclusively to the representation of community associations,
has provided legal counsel and representation to thousands of
condominium, planned development and stock cooperative associations
since its founding in 1987. The firm, co-founded by attorneys David C.
Swedelson and Sandra L. Gottlieb, has a successful track record of
winning legal battles and resolving disputes. SwedelsonGottlieb also
assists in document enforcement and interpretation, as well as with
governing document and amendment as part of it's Amend program. The
attorneys at SwedelsonGottlieb are experienced to handle vendor and
construction contract preparation and negotiation as well as the
day-to-day matters that require legal counsel. Other client services
include helping boards deal with major common area repair and renovation
projects, dealing with developer disputes and transition, and
establishing common area maintenance and repair matrixes and agreements.
The firm handles litigation as well as the regular legal counsel work community associations need. The firm’s litigators have an impressive track record in dealing with the associations’ battles, providing the backbone of even-tempered attorneys who specialize in mediating and resolving disputes including those related to architectural disputes and unauthorized construction, pets, hard surface flooring and other nuisance issues and disputes. SwedelsonGottlieb's litigators have collected tens of thousands of dollars of delinquent assessments using judicial enforcement procedures. And the firms affiliate Association Lien Services has collected millions of dollars using the non-judicial collection process (see ALS' website alslien.com for more information).
David Swedelson began practicing law in 1978, immediately handling community association matters and joining homeowners groups wherever he lived. This insight helps him to further understand and meet the needs of clients. Mr. Swedelson has served on the board of directors for four different community associations, including two for condominiums and the master and sub association for a planned development. A graduate of Whittier Law School, he is married and the father of three children.
Sandra Gottlieb, who also began practicing law in 1978, started out as labor counsel for unions as well as for the ABC Network. She then joined 20th Century Fox as the Telecommunications Division’s Director of Business Affairs, then as the Licensing and Merchandising Division’s Vice President of Business Affairs. Gottlieb's extensive transactional experience is a substantial benefit to the firms clients. Also a member of her homeowner association, Ms. Gottlieb is married and the mother of three children.
