A recent poll of 1,700 people by Robert Walters revealed that 70% of Canadian professionals are concerned about their psychological health and safety at work. Martin Fox, Managing Director at Robert Walters Canada, noted a shift in professionals' expectations, focusing on how companies can support their well-being rather than what they can do for the company. Megan Gallagher, a senior consultant, identified communication as a major barrier, with many employees unaware of the available resources despite employers’ efforts to enhance benefits. Although 64% of employers plan to boost wellness investments in 2024, only 15% of professionals feel that their wellbeing is prioritized. Gallagher also criticized "wellbeing washing," where companies superficially support mental health without making real changes. The survey highlighted the importance of flexibility, beyond remote work, in creating a supportive environment, as 86% of professionals prioritize their personal wellbeing. The results stress the need for employers to align their efforts with employee expectations through better communication, genuine support, and flexible work conditions.
