Looking for some gems of wisdom? Welcome to another edition of #linkedinwisdom where I share my favorite posts of the week from my LinkedIn network. This week features perhaps my favorite post of all time from Bryan Sagray. I liked it so much I decided to link to it so you can find it easily. "25 hours a day and 8 days a week was my dads motto when he opened his business. Why am I sharing all this back story? Because what my dad built, how he built it, and the way he built it changed my life." Bryan Sagray “My dad didn’t always have money. I remember picking blueberries one summer to sell so we could go on a camping trip. But in 1998 my dad opened a landscaping company with a lawn mower and beat up truck. Today, he owns the premiere landscape installation company for all RaceTracs, Dollar Generals, and several other major chains in the Southeast.” Holly Crawshaw “You may not be where you want to be, but you are also not where you used to be. Marvel at how far you have come and keep going. One day at a time, one foot in front of the other.” Caren Cooper "If you have trouble finding the “right” team members…the problem may be you. This may be tough to accept but I know good leaders can handle the truth." Gary Vaynerchuk "Remember the advent of The Information Age? It was incredible to have universal access to information across the globe. The same data present in Harvard Medical School was suddenly accessible on your phone as you walked through a city on the opposite side of the world. Now, we stand on the precipice of an even more disruptive era: The Insight Age." Joel "Thor" Neeb Which one is your favorite? Let's keep the conversation going. https://lnkd.in/eV5KFkZq

25 hours a day and 8 days a week was my dads motto when he opened his business. This photo shows my dad at age 18, along with his first 2 work vans and the new house he and my mom had built. Like, built with their own hands. My dad was raised by an abusive, alcoholic handyman in a house with a dirt floor and no one around to care. He started working in the trades at age 12 to put food on the table for the whole family and that taught him responsibility. It also taught him something no one else was doing at that time. The plumbing trades needed first class service. Dad grew up around the trades and knew what it would take in order to set yourself apart and to make waves. It wasn’t enough to fix their issue or solve the problem quickly and correctly. You had to deliver a great experience. The customer had to trust you in their home, around their family, and that you had the needed expertise too. He treated his customers like his family. Gave them multiple price options. Talked to them at their level. Keep everything clean. Shirts tucked in… And left their house how he found it. The customer experience he provided at the time was unheard of in plumbing, it made him successful and fulfilled too. ____________________________________ Why am I sharing all this back story? Because what my dad built, how he built it, and the way he built it changed my life. I asked him one time why by thought his business had become so successful, and dad said it was really simple: “It doesn’t matter if you’re a plumber or a doctor or lawyer or anything else son. You have to love what you do. Be good at what you do. And take pride in that. You have to love the customer. Build trust and connect with them deeply. Want to serve and solve their issue despite what they may owe you. Most importantly, treat them like they’re the only 1 that matters.” ____________________________________ All these years later, when I look at these old photos and think about the talks I had with dad before he passed, It brings me joy and reminds me why I invest heavily in building such deep relationships with all of my clients. You see in order to help others become more of who they’ve always been, I first build trust, connection, and a safe space. Even if it takes 25 hours a day and 8 days per week, I’m serving one person at a time. That’s my promise to you. After all, that’s how I was raised. If you’re ready to thrive, I can help you. PS Do you value the customer experience?

Happy Saturday everyone! Welcome back to our third week of #LinkedInWisdom, where we explore and share standout insights from professionals right here on LinkedIn. Each quote is from a post that particularly resonated with me this week and I hope it does the same for you. As always, I've tagged the authors to acknowledge their contributions and to encourage further dialogue. "Pick up the darn phone and call someone you care about. Today. You are not too busy. There is zero percent chance that you will regret it. And there is a chance you will regret it if you don’t." Jay Coulter, CFP®, CIMA® “Stop trying to convert the non-believers and double down on the believers.” Christopher Tuff "One of the most difficult life events that people go through is walking alongside aging parents. I saw my parents go through this with my grandparents. And I’ve seen several clients go through this with their parents." Andy Krafft, CPA, CFP® "Did you know that by simply showing that you care, you can attract more opportunities? People can feel when someone is genuine and this opens more opportunities for your career and business." Rachel Mitchell "When I was managing a team, I didn't track their time off. Why? Because empowered and recharged employees do their best work. And happy, rested employees are the keys to productivity and success." Melissa Grabiner Happy reading 😊

Have you ever wondered, "How can I minimize my tax liability when selling my equity compensation in retirement?" Equity compensation - it's a way companies reward their employees by offering them a slice of the company pie. This way, everyone's rowing the boat towards the same shore, focusing on long-term success. Now, when planning for retirement, equity compensation can be a game-changer. For those at startups and tech firms, it's an opportunity for substantial financial rewards. Yet, it's not without its complications, especially concerning taxes To minimize your tax liability when selling equity compensation in retirement, it's vital to understand the specific tax treatments of different options. For instance, the sale of shares can trigger capital gains taxes. So, you need to be savvy about when and how you sell to balance out those gains and trim down your tax bill. One slip-up many make is ignoring the tax consequences of selling equity shares. This can end up being a costly mistake, potentially jeopardizing your retirement plans. Plus, letting your company stock options expire without exercising or vesting them can mean waving goodbye to a significant chunk of your retirement funds. Your financial planning should be comprehensive, matching your retirement timeline, spreading your investments, and incorporating other retirement-saving techniques.

It's Tax Day! 💸 It may be too late to do anything about your 2023 taxes, but if 2024 is shaping up to be a high-income year for you, consider a Donor Advised Fund to help maximize your deductions. But what exactly is a Donor Advised Fund (DAF)? A DAF is a philanthropic vehicle that allows you to donate cash, stocks, or other assets to a fund dedicated to charitable giving. You get the tax deduction the moment you contribute to the fund, but you can recommend grants to your favorite charities over time. It’s like having a charitable savings account that grows tax-free! You can take it a step further by gifting highly appreciated stock to the fund, minimizing capital gains taxes and maximizing the impact of your donation. Start planning now to make your 2024 contributions count for more—both for your finances and your favorite causes. #money #taxes #finance
