Most of Washington doesn't have affordable spay/neuter, so we're heading out to help cat rescue organizations in south Puget Sound! Right now, rescues are driving hours to take adoptable animals to get spayed and neutered at clinics in other counties. Our new program, Nomadic Neuters, brings our HQHVSN services to them to help alleviate the burden and get those kitties fixed and in loving forever homes, making space for more cats and dogs to be cared for by these rescues. BIG NEWS: Thanks to over 2,000 of you who took action, the EATS Act is officially dead! Your advocacy has helped protect countless animals from unnecessary suffering; you are the reason this harmful law didn't pass! While this is a huge win, our work is far from over. The House Agriculture Committee has just announced its plan to pass a version of the Farm Bill that could wipe out state laws banning the sale of products from cruel cage confinement for animals. This version of the Farm Bill is just as dangerous as the EATS Act was. Ending animal cruelty is not easy. The psychological toll of animal rescue is heavy. Animals come to us sick and injured, we witness tragedy in the form of abuse or loss, and we often have to tell distressed, deserving people that we can’t help them. Compassion fatigue—constantly witnessing others' trauma—is a challenge our investigators, caregivers, and veterinary team face daily. It can be hard to find the time and space to turn that compassion inward. As we continue our fight to end animal cruelty, please join us in sending some extra love and appreciation to the people making it happen. It's hard to believe that Donkey Basketball still exists. In Donkey Basketball, donkeys endure yanking, whipping, and chasing by their human "teammates" in chaotic, noisy environments. Somehow, people think that the donkeys’ fearful behavior is funny and entertaining. We need your help to put a stop to this. In the last week, we brought in 35 cats from hoarding and cruelty cases, including 10 fragile kittens, who are all receiving care at the sanctuary.
