Daily Rosary

We welcome all to join us after each 9:00 AM Daily Mass to pray the rosary. We especially need prayer during these troubling times!

“Ordination” and “commencement” are two words that seem highlighted for me this week. Just this Saturday, June 1st, Brian Meinders took the next step in his vocation, as Bishop O’Connell called “Deacon Brian” to become “Father Brian.” Rev. Meinders served two internships here at Our Lady of Good Counsel, and so he has chosen to celebrate his traditional “Mass of Thanksgiving” here with our parish community at our Sunday 12 Noon Mass.  Having gotten to know Father Brian during this past year, he impressed me repeatedly with his sense of reverence for the Eucharist, so essential for a priest, and his depth of academic curiosity. With his ordination, Father Brian will commence to serve the people of this diocese as the parochial vicar at our Co-Cathedral of Saint Robert Bellarmine.  Having spent a year at Saint Robert’s myself, I know that he can count on a warm welcome from those parishioners, even as he receives a prayerful farewell from his OLGC community.

This coming week, our 8th graders will celebrate their graduation from OLGC, just as many members of our parish community may experience graduations from kindergarten, elementary schools, high schools and colleges.  While “graduation” is the milestone, “commencement” is the forward-looking event of putting all that learning to work in new endeavors. “Commencement” derives from an old French verb meaning “to begin.”  What will all these graduates begin?

Brian will begin his life of service as a priest. 8th Graders will begin lives as high school students; kindergartners are now “First Graders,” and college graduates may begin vocations in various industries, or some may begin graduate-level education. Some have new titles, such as “Father,” “Doctor” or “Counselor.”

Remarkably, a picture taken the day before their graduation, and a day after their graduation look mostly the same; from the picture, you cannot tell the “before” and “after” image.  Internally, we know there is a significant difference.

This weekend, we also celebrate the great feast of Corpus Christi, or “The Body of Christ.” Some reading this note may have participated in our Eucharistic Holy Hour and outdoor Adoration for the vigil of the feast. You don’t look any different externally for having spent time with Jesus, just as we don’t look different after receiving Holy Communion. But each of us who receive and spend time with Jesus know that we are changed by His gift of grace, and conformed more closely into the image of God into which we each were made by God. Don’t forget to thank God for the invisible changes in our lives, through Him, with Him, and in Him.

Hospice Care Information

On Sunday, October 16th, OLGC offered an information program on Hospice Care and Spirituality at the end of our lives. We had a good turnout of about 35-40 parishioners in attendance. For those who may have missed the information session, below are links to the documents which were shared with the attendees.

Please always remember: if your loved one needs the Sacrament of the Sick, do not hesitate to call us at (856) 425-0181, our parish Emergency Number, and Father Jim or Father Jack will respond immediately to your request.

Respect Life Homily

Deacon Tom Kolon shared a wonderful and informative Catholic perspective on Respect Life, encompassing current events and statistics that spanned from end of life through the very beginning in the womb. You can re-watch his homily on the live streaming or may click here for a written copy to share.

Our Promise to Protect

The Diocese of Trenton is committed to the initiatives outlined in the U.S. Bishops’ Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People in regard to the reporting and investigation of sexual abuse allegations involving minors.  The Diocese has in place a Victim’s Assistance Coordinator, who is available to obtain support for your needs and help you make a formal complaint of abuse.

If you have been sexually abused as a minor by a member of the clergy or anyone representing the Catholic Church, or if you know someone who was, you can report that abuse through the diocesan Abuse Hotline: 1-888-296-2965 or via email at abuseline@dioceseoftrenton.org.

The Diocese encourages anyone with an allegation to also report that abuse to their local law enforcement agency.  The Diocese reports all allegations received to the appropriate county prosecutor’s office.
