Dental Crowns and Bridges

Dental crowns and bridges are used to repair missing or damaged teeth. Anderton Family Dental uses state-of-the-art equipment to create dental crowns and bridges that would perfectly match the shape and color of your existing teeth. This procedure will also decrease the risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and teeth shifting.
Crowns

A dental crown, also known as a cap, is used to cover or encase a damaged tooth. The three different types of crown are porcelain, gold, and the combination of both. Dental crown procedures are usually completed within two dental appointments. It is commonly used for the following reasons:

To protect a tooth after a root canal treatment
If the tooth needs heavy filling
To prevent a tooth from further cracking or fracturing
To cover a tooth that is discolored
To cover a deformed tooth

Bridges

A dental bridge is a ceramic material that is normally used to replace a missing tooth. It "bridges" the gap between missing or extracted teeth. Just like a dental crown procedure, a bridge procedure is normally completed within two sessions over a course of three to six months. The three types of bridges offered at Anderton Family Dental are:

Traditional - this is the most common type of bridge which involves using a crown for the teeth on both sides of the missing tooth and placing a bridge in between.
Cantilever - this type of bridge is attached to adjacent teeth on one side of the missing tooth/teeth.
Maryland-bonded - this type of bridge is supported by metal foundation called "wings," which are bonded on both sides of the missing tooth.

Dental Fillings:

When considering dental fillings, one of the options available is composite fillings which are made from durable plastics that are similar in color to natural teeth. Because the composite fillings are tooth-colored, they look more natural and are less noticeable compared to other types of fillings.

Another benefit of tooth-colored fillings is that they are compatible with sealants, allowing your dentist to perform both procedures in a single sitting and thus preventing further decay. There are other advantages to composite, tooth-colored fillings such as, most importantly, its ability to bond to tooth structures. Also, in many cases these fillings can be repaired by the addition of more composite material.

Root Canal Therapy:

Every tooth consists of three different layers. The outermost and hardest layer is enamel, and the second layer is dentin. The third is pulp, which is the cavernous space where the live tissue and nerve of each tooth is located.

Root canal treatment is the process of going inside the pulp space and removing the infected, dead tissue. The space is then disinfected and sealed with special materials. Nowadays, root canal treatments are performed with advanced techniques and materials, making them far more comfortable and faster. After root canal treatment is complete, your restorative dentist will usually place a crown on your tooth to safeguard against fracture.

Tooth Extractions:

Although it sounds complicated, a tooth extraction is a routine procedure that according to The Mayo Clinic carries a very low risk of long-term complications. The procedure itself is painless when performed by an experienced dentist or oral surgeon, and the recovery process is usually equally simple.


Dr. Mark Anderton, D.M.D., grew up in Kenmore, WA and attended the University of Kentucky School of Dentistry in Lexington, KY, graduating in 2004. He practiced in a group setting in East Wenatchee, WA for 12 years before selling his part of the business and relocating to Wenatchee. Dr. Anderton has experience in crown/bridge, fillings, root canals, all types of extractions, implants, and orthodontics.
