About Capitalist Pig at Mad Art Gallery

Established January 2015

Capitalist Pig takes its inspiration from the idea of fine, handcrafted barbecue. It's a step above the rest. Our artisan barbecue is made with care, using old-fashioned smoking and curing methods that take more time and produce a better product. It is the juxtaposition of fine food and the time-honored tradition of making great meat. This is barbecue at its best. At Capitalist Pig, we are passionate about barbecue. We are also passionate about our community. We want to show our customers and our city that it is possible to operate a business that is sustainable and environmentally sound. We support local farmers and procure our products from sustainable sources. Small, family-owned farms produce our pork, beef and chicken without hormones or antibiotics. The farmers take great care in raising the animals and protecting the environment. Animals are not caged or stacked, and factory-farming practices are not used. Additionally, we practice recycling and composting. You will not find Styrofoam carryout containers at Capitalist Pig. Our containers are compostable. From farm to table, we have created an environmentally conscious, artisan barbecue experience that ends with you enjoying delicious food you can feel good about. Capitalist Pig uses products from local and regional farmers who raise their animals on a primarily vegetarian diet and grow only organic produce. These animals live natural, stress-free lives and are not treated with antibiotics, hormones or fed animal-by-products. This produces healthy and great-tasting meat. We consider ourselves partners with farmers who share our standards and practices. We are about more than just great food. We believe the act of eating is inherently a political one. Every bite of food you consume affects someone or something: the animal it came from, the farmer that raised that animal, the environment, and your health. Our goal was to create a place where people can come and feel good about what they eat, not only because it is delicious, but because they know that the animals were raised and slaughtered humanely, the produce was grown organically, and they are eating a product that does not contain antibiotics or hormones.
