10/30/2014 TO BUNDLE OR NOT TO BUNDLE?
With so many companies offering to bundle services like home phones,
mobile phones, internet, TV, and now even home security, it begs the
question: is it really best to bundle? Let’s look at some of the pros
and cons.
PROS:
I personally love the one-stop-shop concept. I love that I can buy an
iPod, paint, a pillow, and milk, all from the same store. It saves time and hassle,
and sometimes I even get a better price. So, if I can buy other
products or services like residential security systems for Plano TX with
one phone call or from one website, that sounds like a great thing to
me.
CONS:
It sounds like a great idea, but is it really? First, there is the question of expertise.
Is it really possible for one company to be experts in such varying
services? I hesitate to trust them when it comes to something as
important as my family’s safety. Just because they sell residential
security systems for Plano TX, doesn’t mean they know anything about
home security.
While it may be faster and easier to buy a bundle of services from one company, the fact that it is an ongoing service
adds a whole new dimension. In my experience, if you need help, you
have to speak to a different department for each service offered. The
phone people can’t help with internet problems, and the TV people know
nothing about wireless service. All that transferring around can make
you want to pull your hair out.
Then there is the matter of price increases. Those
big companies are notorious for continuously raising their prices. How
many phone calls will it take to get that straightened out?
