Dr. Henson with Lakewood Trauma Relief Counseling Center has developed Substance Abuse and Family Counseling Centers throughout the Midwest. He introduced the "family illness" concept in outpatient treatment in the early 1970's, recognizing that "three out of four who where affected from substance abuse didn't have the addiction"; i.e., the spouse and children.

As a television show guest, Dr. Henson has shared Ideas concerning intervention strategies, drug abuse, and couples/marital communication and therapy. Dr. Henson chairman for Lakewood Trauma Relief Counseling Center has served as adjunct faculty member for the University of Wichita’s College of Medicine Related Professions, the University of Iowa Social Work Department and the University of Kansas Medical Center. before Lakewood Trauma Relief Counseling Center Dr. Henson held the position of chairperson with the Wichita-Sedgwick County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Advisory Board and chaired the Kansas Alcoholism Counselors Certification Committee in it's early development.

Dr. Henson attended grade school, in part, in Colorado Springs. He spent many summers in Manitou Springs and Chipita Park where his family maintained a cabin. Growing up he spent several years living and working on a farm in central Kansas.

Dr. Henson obtained his title from East High School and Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas prior to "coming home to Colorado". He served in and was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at El Toro, California in the Third Marine Air Wing. He has four children, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Dr. and Mrs. Henson enjoy sight seeing, skiing and camping in the Colorado mountains as well as the variety of enriching cultural and artistic experiences available in the Denver region

As a wounded healer (dysfunctional family of origin and abuse), Dr. Henson and Lakewood Trauma Relief Counseling Center energized in helping individuals and married couples accomplishrecovery and quality of life. He shares exciting, meaningful and short term therapy models for Traumatic Stress (Acute, Chronic and PTSD) and Couples/Marriage Therapy.
