Preschoolers’ development is not only about learning their alphabet and how to count from 1 to 10; it is also about the learning process of receiving information and knowing what to do with it. At Little Scholars we have developed a curriculum that allows your child to learn not only how to take in information but also how to use and build on that information. This is achieved by allowing children to learn and play simultaneously. At this point children are beginning to recognize a relationship between cause and effect. Their language, communication, and speech are increasingly becoming more complete. Therefore, at Little Scholars, children are able to become “little reporters.” Our curriculum is built on more than just memorization of the alphabet; it is also based on the acknowledgment that we live in a world where words are very important, and promoting the use of words in everyday life is Little Scholars’ reading goal. Through the early years of life each child learns to walk, run, hop, and skip, and involving children in games and activities that promote gross motor skills is important to Little Scholars’ overall curriculum. As part of our morning schedule, children are engaged in a musical parade, moving and grooving to the beat and melody. Little Scholars is a developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) learning center, and our faculty and staff are dedicated to providing each child with the age-appropriate life skills. Children will have all the practice they need to learn to tie their shoelaces, dress and undress appropriately, and distinguish between left and right limbs of their bodies. Transitions between activities and tasks are important at this stage.
