Important Information You Must Provide Your Personal Injury Lawyer

01/31/2018 Important Information You Must Provide Your Personal Injury Lawyer
If you were injured in an accident caused by someone else, you may file a personal injury claim to recover compensation for your injuries. However, being upfront with your lawyer about things related to your accident is important. Sharing all the information related to your accident can ensure a successful personal injury case.

Below is the essential information which must be shared with your lawyer:

Details of your accident: Provide your lawyer with all the details about the accident, including where and when it took place, who was involved, and how severe your injuries are. The more details you provide, the greater the impact it will have on the outcome of your case.

Previous injuries: Let your lawyer know if you have been in any previous accidents that resulted in injuries. Sometimes, the other lawyer or insurance adjuster may dig into your past medical records to convince a court that your present injuries are the result of a previous incident.

Lost wages and medical bills: Your lawyer must know all the financial details related to your injury, including those pertaining to lost wages and medical bills.

Bankruptcy filings: If you are filing for bankruptcy, let your lawyer know about it. This is important because your creditors may take advantage of any settlement money you receive from the case or use your financial history against you.

Past criminal history: Although a past criminal record will have no bearing on your personal injury case, your lawyer should be aware of it. It is not uncommon for insurance companies to run a background check. This information will help your lawyer prepare the case accordingly.

If the other party has contacted you: If the liable party or their insurance company contacts you, immediately inform your lawyer. Do not discuss any details of your case without the consent of your lawyer.
