Traditional cardiac evaluations rely on cholesterol and stress tests as markers in detecting cardiac disease. However these evaluations are based on the misconceptions about heart disease and stroke that cholesterol causes heart attacks, stress tests can determine cardiac disease, and that mild to moderate vessel blockages are of little or no concern.

Due to a variety of insurance issues, physicians throughout the country are often prevented from offering laboratory studies, cardiovascular tests, and substantive time to help them identify the possibility of strokes and heart attacks in specific patients. Because of this, these same physicians are unable to diagnose or treat the triggers of strokes and heart disease in an effort to prevent or eradicate the risk of their occurrence all together.

Anne-Marie Feyrer-Melk, M.D. received her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School, and her internship, residency, and fellowship training were completed at Banner Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, with a focus on cardiovascular diseases.

History:

In 2009, Dr. Anne-Marie Feyrer-Melk had finished putting a stent into her patient's heart. The patient wondered why it wasn't until after she suffered her first heart attack that she was being warned about what to do in the event she suffered a second.

"It shook me up. I was doing that to her," said Feyrer-Melk, who was haunted by those words. "After that, I slowly started peeling myself away from putting band aids on end-stage disease ... I had to make a change.

Conflicted, she thought leaving medicine was her only option. But a conference in Chicago geared toward alternative careers for physicians convinced her otherwise by introducing her to a method of practice that allowed her to tailor treatment to the needs of patients.

In 2010, Feyrer-Melk opened Optimal Heart Attack and Stroke Prevention Center, a concierge practice that offers patients a plan designed to detect and prevent heart disease and stroke without the limitations of traditional health-care and insurance plans.

Dr. Anne-Marie Feyrer-Melk MD has been in practice since 1997. She received her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School, and her internship, residency, and fellowship training at Banner Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, focusing on cardiovascular diseases.

In 2010 she opened the Optimal Heart Attack and Stroke Prevention Center, which is Arizona's only concierge cardiology practice. Based in Scottsdale AZ, our team brings more than 20 years of experience to the Valley. Dr. Feyrer-Melk was named a "Top Doc" cardiologist by Phoenix Magazine in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2012. She was also named a Top Doctor by Concierge Medicine Today in 2013.
