About The Beddow School
Established January 2012
The Beddow School provides comprehensive, private education to
suburban Washington, D.C., students from primary school through high
school. Potty-trained children may begin study at The Beddow School at
age two and a half and continue through The Beddow College Preparatory
School. The Beddow School’s campuses are located in Accokeek, Fort
Washington, and Waldorf, Maryland.
The Beddow School’s Montessori-trained teachers educate their students to develop a lifelong thirst for knowledge, a mission that lets the school’s students take responsibility for their own learning. In addition to acquiring excellent academic skills, pupils at The Beddow School must also demonstrate respect for academic achievement. Moral character, leadership, and cooperation are valued as well.
The comprehensive education that The Beddow School provides begins in primary school with early education phonetics lessons in English and concrete study in math, social studies, and science. Beddow College Preparatory School students tackle an even wider array of subjects, participate in numerous extracurricular activities, and work independently in the school’s rigorous academic program.
Students interested in admission to The Beddow School must satisfy a variety of criteria, including interviewing with the school. Primary school students must meet age and toilet training requirements in addition to visiting a campus classroom.
College Preparatory School prospective students must submit recommendations, a transcript, a portfolio or writing sample, and a completed application. The Beddow School interviews prospective students following receipt of all forms.
The Beddow School’s day begins at 8:30 a.m. on all campuses. The Beddow College Preparatory School is housed on a 7-acre campus in Accokeek, Maryland, while the Montessori schools are located in Waldorf and Fort Washington.
