The Crossing Church
About The Crossing Church

Established January 2005

Proclaiming itself “a safe place for a dangerous message,” The Crossing (crossing-church.com), definitely nontraditional, actively reaches out to those for whom traditional Christian churches hold no appeal. Asserting that Jesus was a radical who terrified the establishment during His ministry on Earth, The Crossing calls on people to emulate Him. Established in 2004 by Pastor Eric Dykstra and his wife Kelly, The Crossing sets out to “reach people no one else is reaching.” Typically, they aim their message at young men in their twenties to mid-thirties, because when these men visit the church, they usually bring their families with them. The church’s Code, proudly displayed on its website at crossing-church.com, states this succinctly. The Crossing sets goals to measure progress and influence as many lives for God’s Kingdom as possible. The Crossing’s worship services are unconventional; they often have loud music, and Pastor Eric is known to have a rapid-fire delivery, but the church’s faith is rock-ribbed Christian. Its statement of faith, also available at crossing-church.com, begins with the declaration that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, the supreme and final authority in faith and life. Other articles of faith proclaim the Truth of the Trinity, the sacrifice of Jesus, and the miracle of salvation by God’s Grace. The Crossing (crossing-church.com) has experienced phenomenal growth in its few years of existence. The Elk River campus was established in 2004, and by the end of that year, about 40 people were in attendance every weekend. By the end of 2006, average weekend attendance was just over 300, and that number grew to 450 by the end of 2007. In 2008, The Crossing set itself the ambitious goal of averaging over 2,000 attendees every weekend by 2012; 159 families pledged $500,000 to make this happen. By the end of 2010, average attendance had grown to 1,997 people, and The Crossing met and exceeded its 2012 attendance goal in early 2011. To advance its mission of reaching more people with the love and hope of Jesus Christ, The Crossing has established three more campuses, in Big Lake, Zimmerman, and Princeton, Minnesota.
