Porches vs. Decks: Which is Suited to your Home and Lifestyle?

For many New Jersey homeowners, choosing between the two comes down to budget, maintenance, and of course, their lifestyle.

What Is the Difference Between a Deck and a Porch?
A deck is an elevated outdoor platform that adjoins a home, normally at the back, and provides a recreational area in the yard. While decks are great for summer BBQs, sunbathing, or morning yoga sessions, they can also be great in the cooler months – warm up in your deck hot tub or roast marshmallows around the fire!
On the other hand, a porch is a covered area, most often at the front of the house around the entrance. It can be left open-air or enclosed for all season use. They make great lounging areas – catch up with an old friend over a pitcher of lemonade – as well as an inviting entryway to your home, protecting your guests from a rainy evening.

Because they are normally constructed in the front of the home, porches do have a bigger impact on curb appeal.
