11/17/2009 FARMINGTON - Western Mountain Chiropractic & Sports Injury welcomes new massage therapist Destiny Cook LMT, NCBTMB to its practice.
Cook, who is joining Dr. Tim Saulter and Dr. Douglas White in their practice, is a graduate of the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy, one of the oldest massage therapy schools in Connecticut. During the course of her education, she participated in volunteer work at Avery Heights Geriatric Facility, where her massage work helped many people living with chronic pain.
Cook also volunteered with the Hartford Marathon where she treated a number of athletes with various sports injuries. It was through her experience with the Hartford Marathon, where she realized she wanted to direct her massage profession towards sports therapy.
She also has a background in physical fitness, as she was a manager of a health and Fitness club in Connecticut. The focus of the club was exercise, nutrition, assisting the general public with their decision to live a healthier lifestyle and encouraging the members to stick with that decision.
Cook is a professional member of The American Massage Therapy Association and carries certification from the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage on Body work. The mission of the NCBTMB is to define and advance the highest standards in the massage therapy and bodywork profession. This certification is only achieved by completing a minimum of 500 hours of instruction, demonstrating a mastery of core skills and abilities and knowledge to pass a standardized NCBTMB exam.
She will focus on sports massage, incorporating orthopedic assessments, as well as deep tissue, pregnancy and Swedish Massages.
