About Winding Stair Gardens

Established November 2017

Winding Stair Gardens is Franklin, North Carolina's destination for native plants, garden essentials, and hands-on gardening education. Located in the Southern Appalachian Mountains, our nursery specializes in native perennials, trees, shrubs, and pollinator-friendly plants that thrive in Western North Carolina and North Georgia's unique mountain climate. We offer more than plants—our seasonal workshops teach traditional Appalachian crafts, gardening techniques, and nature appreciation. From fruit tree pruning to wildflower identification, kudzu basket weaving to wreath-making, our classes connect people to the natural heritage of our region. Visit our garden center for expert advice, quality plants, garden tools, pottery, and unique gifts. Our knowledgeable staff helps gardeners of all experience levels create beautiful, sustainable landscapes using healthy and vibrant plants. Serving Western North Carolina and North Georgia communities including Franklin, Highlands, Cashiers, Clayton, Lake Burton, and surrounding Macon and Rabun County areas, Winding Stair Gardens combines retail excellence with environmental education. Discover the joy of gardening with plants that belong here.
