Captured these images of Susanna Kallur in Stockholm, Sweden for Nike's campaign. In-shot the diamond dust separately in a studio in Brooklyn. My assistant, dressed in black, dashed through the frame, scattering metallic paint additive and glitter through the air. I photographed these elements using star filters. At every stage of creating this mixed media artwork, new content emerges. I make a brush stroke at the beginning of the day that knocks out half of the face, and then I follow the trails of creativity that occur where the lumascape opens up a whole different composition. Flash triggered by the sound of a popping balloon. Using a high-tech synchronizing device to capture this real-time image, shot on film with a Linhof Technika 4x5. The final image, shot at a speed of 1/12000 of a second, captures the balloon in mid-pop. The models have not yet reacted to the bang of the balloon, as the image was captured milliseconds after the pop before the sound of the bang could reach their ears.
