I want to clarify that this review is strictly about their IOP program. I have no experience with the inpatient program and so it might be worth five stars. I'm going to start this off with what may seem like a degrading comment but stick with me.
The take Medicaid.
It speaks to what type of client they cater to. Those who have been incarcerated or homeless or both. Now, please understand I'm not making any negative comments about that type of client but if you have not been incarcerated and have not been homeless, then you are going to have a very difficult time relating to the majority of the people that you have to spend your day with. On top of that the groups are overcrowded 20 to 30 people. The level of education of the counselors is difficult to determine, however I had one tell the group to print on the sign in sheet because they could not read cursive. I had another, when someone recommended LinkedIn tell them they didn't think dating apps are appropriate to talk about in group.
The front desk staff acts like run the place. Rude, loud, like you to know they feel in charge.
I have a masters degree and I've held a job for a long period of time, so as you can imagine, these are not my people. I'm sure this program is ok for the clientele it serves, but if you have private pay insurance any type of formal education and have ever been able to hold a job for more than a few months you probably need to find a different type of treatment center.
None of this was made clear to me when I inquired about the program and I actually feel misled in a number of ways.
Another disappointing aspect for me was I stopped going and it's going on four days now and I haven't heard from them, so clearly they don't keep track of their clients either -- which is not a very positive thing to say about the treatment center that is supposed to be compassionate with those having mental health or addiction issues as I could've gone on a bender instead of simply going to a different treatment program, which is what I did.
I don't recommend it based on my experience.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for providing a detailed review of your experience with the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Desert Hope. We take all feedback seriously and are committed to addressing the concerns you have raised.
Firstly, we want to clarify that Desert Hope's IOP program is designed to be inclusive and supportive of a diverse clientele, including individuals from various backgrounds. We believe that recovery is a journey that should be accessible to all, regardless of their socio-economic status or past experiences. However, we understand your perspective on the challenges of relating to peers within the program whose experiences differ significantly from your own.
Regarding the size of the groups and the educational level of our counselors, we aim to maintain a balance that allows for effective and personalized treatment. We are concerned to hear that the group sizes felt overcrowded and that there were issues with communication and professionalism. We will review these aspects of our program to ensure that they align with our standards of quality care.
The experience you described with the front desk staff is not in line with our values of respect and professionalism. We will address this feedback directly with our team to ensure a welcoming and respectful environment for everyone who comes to our facility.
We regret to hear that you felt misled about the program and that your expectations were not met. Clear and transparent communication is crucial, and we will review our processes to ensure that all potential clients receive accurate and comprehensive information about our programs.
Lastly, your concern about the lack of follow-up after discontinuing the program is troubling. Client care and safety are our top priorities, and we aim to maintain regular contact with our clients, especially in transition periods. We will investigate why this did not occur in your case.
We encourage you to reach out to us directly at feedback@contactaac.com to discuss your concerns in more detail. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve our services and ensure that we are providing the best possible care to our clients. - 200148149Oct 21, 2023Updated review
Ok so previous review still stands, the receptionists are rude and don't know how to do their job.
Based on the experience the patient had...
it was hit in miss on how you were treated day to day. A lot of the staff were rude and tried to intimidate you, but there were a few great counselors and Paola & Sabrina were great.
The facility was ok, they definitely have a problem with bed bugs though and the cleaning of the rooms was not great.
Most important They did help with detox and treatment, but did over medicate which caused worse side effects that weren't worth taking a lot of the meds.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

We appreciate your follow-up review and your willingness to provide further insights. It's concerning to hear about the issues with staff behavior and cleanliness. Every patient should be treated with respect and dignity. It's good to know that there were counselors who made a positive impact. The medication issue you mentioned is something that should be addressed with medical professionals to ensure the well-being of the patients.
Your feedback can be helpful for the facility to improve our services. We would like to speak with you directly. Please send us an email directly at feedback@contactaac.com we look forward to hearing from you and addressing your concerns.Oct 16, 2023Previous reviewQuick tip: if their receptionist doesn't even know how to properly transfer a phone call you probably shouldn't trust them for treatment. I'm not a patient, but have attempted calling due to a patient regarding my insurance, and the staff has been nothing but rude and unhelpful. If they will treat me like that, imagine how they will treat your loved ones that need the help.
Full review to come once they stop giving me the run around. - Lae S.Winterwood, Las Vegas, NV04Dec 11, 2023
Absolutely deceiving! Kristen their vp is a liar. So is Ms Brooke's their management. I was a patient there and I offered my services to keep up the patients morale by doing their nails and what not and they said no. Well they didn't tell me personally but they told staff there. How is that barbers are allowed there and yoga instructors but women or men can't get a manicure or fullset there? I guess it's because when I was there I was a problem for them? But I graduated so screw them! I wish they would've corresponded with me about that instead just telling their staff no.? So I would highly recommend anyone with addictions go else where. How do you manage a facility through lies!? SMH

I came to Desert Hope for detox Thursday, December 28, 2023. I'm contacting you to let you know that my experience at Desert Hope was sub par.
To start, things felt very unorganized. It was common for the staff to pass us around when they were unsure instead of seeking clarity on our behalf and advocating for our recovery.
I was told by several staff members that we would/should be seen by an MD each day we were there. Neither myself nor my roomate were seen daily. At one point I became very emotional in front of a male nurse practitioner (PSYCH) due to not receiving the care I was promised by the call center. He assured me I was on the list to be seen the same day by Medical (12/30/23). I was not seen that day by medical. I never had my blood drawn or my TB test results confirmed. I was not tested for HIV, as promised, due to not having my blood drawn.
My purpose in coming to the treatment center was to get off of Subutex because slowly tapering myself was not working for me. When I spoke with several people at the call center, I was reassured that there would be other tapering options to support me through that. I was also told bupenorphine has a longer half life than most drugs. I know that the call center creates a profile for each person seeking treatment. That should've been noted there.
I actually called the call center from my room because I was upset and nobody was helping me.
I told my doctor (Caplin) I do not want to take subutex at all. They put me on an 8mg taper, even though I told everyone who would listen I got down to 6mg on my own and did not want to take anymore. The psychiatrist I saw removed it from my profile. On my fourth day without subutex, I was having pretty bad symptoms but when the nurses communicated w the doctor he again added back the subutex taper instead of helping me find an alternative solution. They were unable to increase my doses of meds (for example, Tylenol 500mg to 1000mg). So finally after feeling extremely helpless, I took 2mg because that was the only option I was given. While it made me feel better, it completely devistated me, knowing that subutex has a long half life. Meaning, I would be withdrawing for longer than I would have if an alternative treatment was provided.
When I finally saw Dr. Caplin again he started the conversation telling to come into his office and shut the door. He said verbatim "what's going on with you?? You were NOT acting like this when I saw you last time" I proceeded to angrily repeat what is stated above and asked I him if he had such an attitude because he was now in trouble (I called the call center). Because I was angry and asked that question, he called in a witness, a Hispanic woman who has glasses and a bun most of the time. He was being quite rude, but at some point he changed his tone and offered me some Ativan after I started crying, again, I explained myself very clearly like I did above, which the witness saw. Because I did not immediately get excited or present myself as happy, he became irritated again, and stated, "I was trying to remediate but I'm not going to apologize again." VERY professional. I said "okay" and walked out.
I got one counseling session with Miss Hailey only because I had a panic attack in front of her, a real panic attack where I could not breathe, and she felt bad for me. I wasn't on the schedule to be seen.
Overall if I had the opportunity to pay out-of-pocket again I would not choose this place.
I did reach out to the Director (the person commenting below) and left her a voicemail letting her know I would like to be contacted back and heard nothing from her.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Horrible service employees. have very little knowledge on recovery. I experienced a nurse, calling me a douche bag. And when I confronted her on it, I was in the wrong would not recommend this place at all. I'm considering a lawsuit.

Fuck this place. The website says clear as day they accept Medicaid it also specifically says anthem blue cross blue shield. When I called the first thing I did was give them my insurance information. I was then thrown into a 45 phone interview that got quite detailed and they even asked my social.
The next morning they calm my husband to let know it's not going to work out. They allegedly don't accept my insurance. I am so mad they questioned me like that. I made sure my insurance was valid. Either they lie or they didn't like me for some reason. Either way it's horseshitHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Heidi, thank you for taking the time to leave a review of our treatment center. Our website states, "Desert Hope accepts private insurance plans. Private refers to mainly the benefits plan largely funded by employers. If you receive insurance through your employer or you are on the policy of a spouse, partner, or parent who gets insurance through work, you are using private insurance. However, individual plans you pay for yourself are also private. Any insurance plan that is not offered by a state or federal agency is private.
Desert Hope does not currently accept coverage provided by Medicare."
While we currently do not accept Medicaid, we accept Blue Cross Blue Shield private insurance. We hope this helps clarify things further. You do not have to have insurance to attend Desert Hope, we would be happy to speak to you about our private pay options. Please reach out to us at feedback@contactaac.com for further clarification. - Shannon8er ..Los Angeles, CA06Dec 22, 2023Updated review
